Gogospirit rated it it was amazing Jan 15, Heisig insists that writing individual characters a number of times is a waste of time, time better spent drilling with flashcards.
Many of the “primitive elements,” or building blocks, used in the drawing of the characters also serve to indicate the “Chinese reading” that particular kanji use, chiefly in compound terms.
However I bought the whole book and Just to test the “literature” idea I checked the kanji count in three of Soseki’s novels Sanshiro, Sore Kara, and Mon, which form hrisig of a loose trilogy.

Behind the notorious inconsistencies in the way the Japanese language has come to pronounce the characters it received from China lies a solid and rather extensive of coherent patterns. So don’t go for volume 3, only if you want to.
Heisig’s method, Remembering the kanji vol 1, 2 , 3 ………..?
Heisig suggests reading and using the kanji as much as possible. Click the “Reviewing the Kanji”‘ link at the top.
Book 3 is optional really and imo it’s better to do that when you come to if you even want to. Helsig, why would anyone want to read a Japanese newspaper? Individual frames cross-reference the kanji to alternate readings and to the frame in volume 1 in which the meaning and writing of the kanji was first introduced. On a Mac, Hiragino Mincho Pro is recommended.
